Harnessing the latest qPCR technology
Why identify mould DNA?
HouseTest has developed a qPCR test for mould DNA which is now available in the UK.
The test accurately identifies whether or not a building has a problem with mould and how widespread the problem is.
The test involves taking samples of dust or air and sending the sample to HouseTest’s laboratory.
HouseTest’s scientists then analyse the sample for the presence of mould DNA and produce a comprehensive report explaining the results.
Setting new standards for sensitivity
Because HouseTest’s mould test is so sensitive, it can reveal the presence of mould in a home even if it is growing out of sight.
Mould often grows in hidden spaces, such as behind wallpaper, under floors or within dry-lined walls. Although mould spores are not visible to the naked eye, HouseTest’s technology ensures that even hidden sources of mould are identified.
Pinpoint accuracy for more effective solutions
HouseTest’s DNA analysis offers a highly detailed picture of precisely which species of mould is present within a building. It also identifies how much of each species is present.
Because HouseTest’s scientists can identify specific mould species, they can find out whether mould is actually growing indoors. Mould is everywhere in the natural environment, but only certain species can thrive in indoor environments.
By identifying mould species, HouseTest can find out whether mould spores in a property belong to species that typically grows indoors, or whether they belong to species that occur naturally in the outside air.
This helps specialists plan appropriate treatment strategies.
Detecting high humidity levels
Certain species of mould thrive in damp indoor environments.
If HouseTest detects DNA from those species in a sample taken from a building, this suggests that the building is suffering from damp problems.
High humidity levels can have many causes. They most commonly include condensation or water ingress.
The precise source of the humidity should be investigated by a suitably qualified surveyor or damp specialist.
Detecting mouldy materials
Different mould species thrive on different materials, so HouseTest’s DNA species analysis can indicate which material any mould might be growing on — and under what atmospheric conditions. This makes it easier for remedial specialists to plan their work.
Respected in the scientific community
HouseTest work to the highest scientific standards, and they regularly contribute to research projects into mould and moisture in buildings.
